How to Apply for the Makerere University MasterCard Foundation Scholars Program 2024/2025 (Fully Funded) for Ugandans

The Mastercard Foundation has renewed its partnership with Makerere University, offering 1000 scholarships over 10 years for both Undergraduate and Master’s programs. This initiative supports young people from economically disadvantaged communities in Africa, enabling them to access quality education and develop into leaders who can drive social and economic progress.

Eligibility Criteria

Undergraduate Scholarships

To be eligible for the Undergraduate Scholarship, applicants must:

  1. Qualify for admission at Makerere University’s main campus under the Private Sponsorship Scheme.
  2. Complete the Advanced level education (or its equivalent) in an African country.
  3. Demonstrate significant financial hardship.
  4. Show leadership potential and a record of community service.
  5. Not hold any other scholarships.
  6. Not have registered for or completed any other undergraduate degree program.
  7. Be 28 years old or younger at the time of application (32 years for refugees and students with disabilities).
  8. Refugees must provide proof of their status (refugee attestation).

Master’s Scholarships

To be eligible for the Master’s Scholarship, applicants must:

  1. Qualify for admission at Makerere University’s main campus for a Master’s Degree program.
  2. Complete their Bachelor’s Degree studies in an African country.
  3. Demonstrate significant financial hardship.
  4. Show leadership potential and a record of community service.
  5. Not hold any other scholarships.
  6. Not have registered for or completed any other master’s studies.
  7. Be 35 years old or younger at the time of the application deadline (40 years for refugees and students with disabilities).
  8. Refugees must provide proof of their status (refugee attestation).

Additional Notes

  • 70% of the scholarships will be awarded to female applicants.
  • 25% of the scholarships will be awarded to refugees and internally displaced persons (IDPs).
  • 10% of the scholarships will be awarded to youth with disabilities.
  • Incomplete applications will be automatically disqualified.
  • The program adheres to merit principles and has zero tolerance for dishonesty.

Application Procedure

  1. Eligibility Check: Ensure you meet the eligibility criteria specified for either the Undergraduate or Master’s scholarship.
  2. Application Form Submission:
    • Hand Delivery: Submit the completed application form in person to the Mastercard Foundation Scholars Program office at Plot 144, Pool Road, Makerere University.
    • Email: Send the completed application form as an attachment to makscholarsapplications@gmail.com.

  3. Contact and Further Selection: Only shortlisted candidates will be contacted for further selection processes.
  4. No Fees: The application form is free, and no payments should be made at any stage of the selection process.
