Ugandan artist Alexander Bagonza, alias Apass, says his 42-track album “Bagonza” has been very successful since its release. The outspoken artist made the remarks as he appeared on NBS TV’s After 5 Show on Monday, May 27, 2023.
He used the interview to respond to recurring criticism towards his thought process behind releasing a 42-track album, with many critics unsure if listeners would give audience to all the songs.
But to Apass, these are myopic opinions as he’s confident about the loyalty of his fanbase. One of the critics is Galaxy FM presenter DJ Nimrod, who recently referred to the album as a failure.
The target audience (for this album) are the people who are already fans of A Pass. I do not go out trying to look for a new audience

According to Bagonza, there’s no point in making music for new audiences yet your primary one is hungry for better. It is with such convictions that he embarks on new projects with the primary goal of satisfying his “day ones.” This, he says, is easy to achieve because he knows exactly what they want through his interactions with and feedback from them.
The Gamululu hitmaker therefore sees no point in the media critics’ opinions as the consumers are okay with it.
“Bagonza,” Apass’ 3rd studio album, was released at the beginning of the year following a rigorous creative journey of five years. The album, which was initially supposed to be a bedroom one, morphed into a general love album as some of the top producers hopped onto it. It also featured talented urban artists such as Likkle Bangi, Akeine, and Alina Jah. The responsibility of mastering was undertaken by Baru Beats.
