UPDF Recruiting Scientists – Here’s How to Apply

The Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) has announced a new recruitment drive targeting scientists/ fresh graduates. This follows the recent recruitment of S.4 leavers. The age limit for applicants is set between 18 and 28 years.

The UPDF is seeking candidates from the following categories:

UACE (S.6) Science-Based Combinations

Applicants must have at least a principal pass in Chemistry, Physics, Mathematics, or Geography, plus subsidiaries in the following combinations:

  • PEM (Physics, Economics, Mathematics)
  • PCM (Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics)
  • PCB (Physics, Chemistry, Biology)
  • BCM (Biology, Chemistry, Mathematics)
  • MEG (Mathematics, Economics, Geography)

Degrees or Diplomas in:

  • Civil Engineering
  • Telephone Engineering
  • Automotive Engineering
  • Computer Engineering
  • Aircraft Maintenance Engineering
  • Electronic Engineering
  • Cyber Security
  • Computer Forensics
  • Computer Science
  • Aerospace Engineering
  • Masonry
  • Electrical Engineering
  • Painting
  • Specialized Fabrication
  • Carpentry
  • Heavy Engineering Equipment Operation
  • Heavy Engineering Equipment Mechanics

Application Process

Interested candidates can apply online through the UPDF website at www.updf.go.ug/careers. The application window is open for 14 days, from June 19 to July 3, 2024.

From July 4 to July 10, applications will be reviewed and successful candidates will be listed on the website. The final list of successful applicants will be published from July 11 to July 14.

Screening Process

Candidates who find their names on the website must report to the Land Forces Headquarters in Bombo for screening on July 15, 2024. The screening process will include medical and physical fitness tests.

Requirements for Screening

Applicants must bring the following documents to the screening:

  • National Identity Card
  • Letters from LCI and LCII Chairpersons, GISO, and DISO

The UPDF emphasizes that no money is required at any stage of the recruitment process. Recruitment into the UPDF is entirely free.
