Uganda People’s Defense Forces  – UPDF  under the East African Community Regional Force (EACRF) for peace keeping mission in the Democratic Republic of Congo(DRC) has today assumed control over key vital places of Kiwanja(Rutshuru area) which was recently dominated by the M 23 movement (M23) in Northern Kivu-DRC Congo as they plan to leave Mabenga.
The subsequent deployment of the Uganda Contingent soldiers and the pull out of the M23 is in agreement with the decision  of twentieth summit  of the East African Community heads of state held in Bujumbura – Burundi on fourth February 2023 and the East African chief of defense forces meeting of ninth of Feb 2023 .
The summit coordinated for the sequential pull out and arrangement of the East African Community Regional Force  and the quick takeover of the regions emptied by the M23.
Col Michael Walakal Hyeroba, the Contingent Commandant of the Uganda Contingent force said that “the agreement on the decision made  from the summit by the M23 is a vital consideration the restoration of peace and harmony in North Kivu” adding that the control of the Uganda People Defense forces in North Kivu yielded trust in the natives who had at first escaped in the plea of being harmed by  impending conflict between the UPDF and the M23.
He called onto  them to come back to their homes and go on with their typical life as the East African Community Regional force is an neutral force meant to secure a   serene and a steady environment for stability .
Uyezu Gloria, a business woman  from the  community of Kiwanja-Rutshu in Northern Region welcomed the deployment of the Uganda contingent soldiers in the overall areas of Kiwanja as she mourned that the region is moderately peaceful yet with the deployment of UPDF, the whole  area is assured of safety.
All positions involved by the Uganda People defense force in Bunagana-DRC have been neutralised and the circumstance is  quiet calm with no violence as the natives are  now partaking  in peace brought by the Uganda contingent.
