The Uganda Investments Authority (UIA) Director General, Robert Mukiza, has lashed out at State Minister for Investment Evelyn Anite for blackmail.
Mukiza accuses Anite of engineering cyber harassment against Dubai Prince Sheikh Mohammed Juma Al Maktoum.
In a July 23 letter to President Museveni, the UIA boss accused the minister of misrepresenting a meeting with the British High Commissioner to Kampala.
“After receiving the prestigious award, witnessed by the UAE Ambassador to Uganda, some hate-filled individuals threatened by his potential investments, sponsored bloggers to create a sham platform news whose cardinal purpose was to create and promote fictitious and fake content against the Sheikh as a conman who is impersonating the royal ruling family of Dubai.” Mukiza says.
Similarly, he accused Anite of fabricating a meeting with the UK High Commissioner to Uganda.
In June, State Minister Evelyn Anite ordered UIA management to return Shs545 million in “honoraria payments. Anite condemned the payments as “despicable” and demanded a refund within 24 hours, warning of severe consequences. The funds, paid on July 23, 2023, included Shs82 million to Director General Robert Mukiza and Shs58 million to Dr. Paul Kyalimpa. The KIPD project, funded by a €249 million loan, had faced delays and allegations of corruption and inflated costs.
Mukiza calls for Anite’s resignation
The Namanve project was signed between Uganda Investments Authority, v and Standard Chartered Bank. Mukiza says based on this, the British High Commission office has no jurisdiction of it.
“The above analysis therefore brings me to conclusion that you lied about the meeting with the British High Commissioner as well as your engagement with United Kingdom Export Finance regarding honoraria and VOP payments to the contractor.” Mukiza
The UIA Director General asked the minister to resign for fabricating lies and subsequently be taken to Luzira over the same.“On the other hand, if you produce empirical evidence that challenges my above analysis, then I stand to be penalized,” Mukiza said.
