Ugandan lady who was convicted for drug trafficking has been condemned to 7 years in jail in South Sudan’s capital Juba.
Josephine Mbabazi has been in custody since August last year when she was captured and accused of dealing 700 kilograms of heroin.
The Ugandan citizen, who was on the way to Ethiopia, was captured at the Juba international Air airport on 8 August 2022 by the Criminal investigation department(CID).
The current Judge Mujahid Abdullah Akon on Thursday condemned the 28-year-elderly person to 7 years in jail for disregarding Segment 383 of the South Sudan Reformatory Code, 2008.
Before the court ruling, Mbabazi conceded and asked the judge to lessen her sentence because of wellbeing and family reasons.
Segment 383 of the South Sudan penal Code, 2008 says whoever commits the offense of unlawful offesense of dealing with drugs, upon conviction, will be condemned to detainment for a period not surpassing 14 years or with a fine or with both.
