Field Enumerators at The Aquaya Institute

The Aquaya Institute (Aquaya) is seeking nine (09) Field Enumerators to assist with a baseline survey project in Kabarole, Uganda, scheduled for September 2024. This full-time role involves collecting data on handpumps and surrounding communities to assess the functionality and management of water points.

Job Details

  • Position: Field Enumerator (09 Positions)
  • Location: Kabarole, Uganda
  • Duration: 3 weeks (September 2024)
  • Compensation: Competitive daily rate and per diem for days worked

Key Responsibilities

  • Training: Participate in training with Aquaya’s Research Officer and Program Associate to learn the research protocol, data collection methods, and functionality testing of water points.
  • Data Collection:
    • Travel to assigned study areas to collect data on water points and communities.
    • Use mobile data collection tools to gather survey responses, including obtaining informed consent where necessary.
    • Conduct on-site functionality tests at water points, such as making up to 15 strokes to assess operation.
    • Accurately record data on water point functionality, community behavior, and other indicators.
  • Equipment Management: Ensure data collection devices are properly maintained throughout the process.
  • Reporting: Regularly report progress and any field issues to the field supervisor.
  • Confidentiality: Maintain the confidentiality and integrity of all collected data.
  • Additional Tasks: Assist with other fieldwork tasks as assigned by Aquaya staff.

Required Skills and Qualifications

  • Field Data Collection: Experience using digital applications for field data collection.
  • Survey Experience: Experience with qualitative surveys, including interviews and focus group discussions (FGDs).
  • Ethics: Understanding of ethics in conducting human subject research.
  • Detail-Oriented: Strong attention to detail and excellent record-keeping skills.
  • Communication: Fluency in English and Rutooro, with strong communication skills.
  • Teamwork and Independence: Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Punctuality: Commitment to timely and reliable work.

Desired Skills

  • GPS Knowledge: Familiarity with GPS apps for location tracking.
  • Field Adaptability: Ability to navigate challenging field conditions, including long walks and difficult terrain.

Supervision and Quality Control

The Field Enumerator will report directly to Aquaya’s Research Officer and Program Associate. Quality control checks will be conducted to ensure high standards of data collection.
