Tamale Mirundi Passes Away After Month-long Hospitalization

Former Presidential Press Secretary Tamale Mirundi has died. Mirundi passed on Tuesday night at the age of 60.

Known for his controversy, Mirundi breathed his last at Kisubi Hospital after close to a month on admission. By press time, the hospital hadn’t released the exact cause of his death; however, he had been battling recurring lung infections.

“I remember when Tamale Mirundi first heard my voice on TV. He told me, ‘You’re good, and you’re not trying to copy anyone.’ Those words have stayed with me ever since. Coming from someone as influential as him, it meant the world to me. It’s a memory I’ll never forget.” – Adam Mayambala, journalist.

Born in Rakai district in 1964, Mirundi attended Lubiri Senior Secondary School and Makerere University. While still at university, he started practicing journalism for the newspaper Munno.

After years in journalism, he was appointed President Press Secretary. He served President Museveni for 13 years until he was unceremoniously fired. Following his replacement with Don Wanyama, Mirundi kept alleging that his dismissal from State House was engineered by people he knew.He has been on record declaring his disappointment with fellow media personalities Andrew Mwenda and Robert Kabushenga.

After leaving State House, he appeared on NBS TV on the “One on One with Tamale Mirundi” show. However, he would soon fall out with the Naguru establishment and leave. Since 2020, he has maintained his political commentary on a YouTube channel, Kasuku Live. Tamale Mirundi has been eulogized on social media as an outspoken commentator who was true to his words.
