Swangz Avenue Owns My Music – Vinka

Singer Vinka has confirmed reports that her music catalogue is owned by record label Swangz Avenue.

The “Chips Na Ketchup” hit maker made this revelation while appearing on a show on Galaxy Radio.

In the same show, Vinka was hosted with the female duo Kataleya and Kandle. It should be remembered that the duo hit the rocks with their former management, forcing them to rebrand.

It is with this background that the host, DJ Nimrod, posed a question to Vinka about the ownership of her music.

“According to the contract you signed, should you leave Swangz Avenue, is the music yours or theirs?” – DJ Nimrod.

Vinka disclosed that Swangz has full rights over her creativity. Should she part ways with the record label, Vinka would have to buy herself out of the contract. It is only after paying out Swangz that she would possess her music and brand.

She acknowledged that she would not earn all rights from her digital streams and performances short of an agreement with the label.

However, Vinka notes that such an agreement can easily be reached if both parties are on good terms.

She said that should the separation be because of misunderstandings, the record labels can tend to frustrate the artists.

“I don’t own all my music fully. It is owned by Swangz Avenue, and if I woke up one day and wanted to walk away, then I’d either buy myself from them or let everything go depending on what terms I’d have left.” – Vinka
