Hon. Theodore Ssekikubo has extended the collection of signatures for his censure motion, meant to relieve backbench Parliamentary Commissioners of their roles to Monday 10th June.
This latest extension is the second in as many weeks following last week’s extension to allow MPs to return from upcountry and Martyrs Day celebrations.
Speaking at Parliament on Friday, the Lwemiyaga County MP confirmed that this latest extension has been provided on request from MPs who are on trips outside the country.
According to Ssekikubo, this move was meant to derail his team from their mission of censuring the four MPs involved in the Shs 1.7 billion service award controversy.
In the same address to journalists, Ssekikubo lauded the President for his support during the State of the Nation Address. During the State of the Nation Address on Thursday, President Museveni revealed that he had evidence about a racket of corruption at Parliament. According to Ssekikubo, these remarks by the president were a vindication of his team’s effort to ask Parliament for accountability.
This comes as a relief to Ssekikubo who feels he has been exonerated of allegations that he had a personal vendetta against the commissioners.
The service award was done outside the law. It was personal aggrandizement, people shared money between themselves and not the entire Parliament, Parliament never approved that. What they are peddling on social media, they are forgeries. You know now they are making more mistakes, they are even forging.

In addition, Ssekikubo revealed his disappointment in the attempts by certain officials at Parliament to forge the Hansard minutes.
Unknown Numbers
Although Ssekikubo is tight-lipped on the number of signatures he has raised, we can confirm that a significant number have been in support of his motion.
On Friday, Mukono Municipality MP Betty Nambooze and Ntungamo Municipality MP Yona Musinguzi also signed the motion.
Yona Musinguzi used the opportunity to call out MPs, including Kira Municipality’s Ibrahim Ssemujju Nganda, for what he called dishonesty. Over the last week, Hon. Ssemujju Nganda said that this service award in question was indeed passed by Parliament.
However, Hon. Musinguzi says this isn’t true and if it was passed, then it wasn’t recorded on Parliament’s record.

The four parliamentarians have been under scrutiny for reportedly allocating taxpayers’ money of up to Shs 1.7 billion on top of a monthly salary of Shs 23 million without approval from Parliament.
