President Museveni Takes Anti-Corruption Crusade To Kyankwanzi

President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni

President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has taken his anti-corruption crusade to the National Leadership Institute in Kyankwanzi, with his latest audience being Ministers and their Permanent Secretaries.

Ministers and government accounting officers are currently in Kyankwanzi for a retreat. In his address, President Museveni blasted the Permanent Secretaries for letting the country down in the corruption fight.

“It is initially not the work of the political leaders to fight corruption. That is what Ugandans need to understand. However, they are ultimately responsible for defending the interests of the people if the accounting officers do not do their work.” President Museveni said.

The President also decried the levels of corruption in the local governments. He narrated a story where a parent was asked for about shs 10 million to secure a job for their child in one of the districts in the Bunyoro subregion. He warned the administrators of local governments to stop this vice before he releases his wrath.

President Museveni also expressed his fear of the sophistication of corruption in the country. According to him, the country is currently facing corruption in two dimensions. The first dimension is the stealing of government money and taking bribes from the public to provide government services. This also involves missing the procurement processes to cheat the State.

President commends army

The President also commended the army under the leadership of first son General Kainerugaba Muhoozi. He said that the bulk of the UPDF are instead victims of corruption by civilians.

“One of our mobilizers composed a verse in a song that said, ‘soldiers that are like nuns.’ They are soldiers, but they behave politely and are like nuns. A large part of that heritage has been kept.” President Museveni said.

He visited the history books, reminding the ministers about the Amin-Obote roadblocks by the army. This, he said, were avenues for the wanainchi to be robbed, brutalized, and disappeared forever.

Vice President Jessica Alupo commended the President for maintaining economic security since 1986.

“You can now move from North to East, South to West, and Central at any time of the day without any interruptions. This is military security,” Jessica Alupo said.
