President Museveni Promises To Crush Corruption In Uganda

President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has promised to crush corruption in Uganda. The president made this promise at a graduation ceremony at the National Defence College in Jinja on Saturday.

We are ready to crush everyone. If a leaf falls in tea we just remove it but if a fly falls in the tea, we shall pour it. The corrupt are the flies and we shall pour them away.

During the ceremony, the president passed out 21 graduates who excelled in the Masters of National Security and Strategic Studies program. The National Defence College had partnered with Makerere University to curate and lecture this program to the military officers.

These graduates, who were topped by Col Paddy Ankunda, had spent a year studying the program.

Today marks another huge milestone in the journey of the college. We are graduating another cohort who diligently spent their time here with a very positive attitude and commitment not only to learn but also to share experiences amongst themselves.

As usual, the president couldn’t resist lecturing the army officers on patriotism, Pan-Africanism, democracy and the principles of the NRM.

Similarly, the officers were lectured on how the country can achieve socio-economic transformation through education and wealth creation. However, the biggest part of his speech was an attack on corrupt civil servants whose days, he said, were numbered.

According to the president, the fight against corruption will only be successful if the entire nation joins it. To him, this will not only enhance the efficiency of public servants but also the private sector.

The president also had time to boast about the standards of Uganda’s Defence Colleges, which he said are attracting individuals from foreign countries. President Museveni also directed the UPDF to upgrade all army training schools to be centres of excellence.
