President Museveni Promises Industrialization of Karamoja

President Yoweri Museveni has pledged the industrialization of the Karamoja subregion.

The President delivered his latest promise while addressing mourners at the National Resistance Movement (NRM) headquarters in Kampala.

This was during a service to honor the deceased NRM Vice Chairperson for Karamoja Subregion, Simon Peter Aleper. Aleper tragically passed away in a motor accident along the Iganga highway on Tuesday, July 23rd.

Additionally, Aleper had served as a member of Parliament for Moroto Municipality. In his address, President Museveni praised Aleper’s contributions to the transformation of the Karamoja subregion. The President also highlighted Aleper’s dedication to service delivery.

He attributed the elevation of Karamoja to a powerhouse region to the deceased MP.

“Karamoja is going to be a powerhouse now. There are already industries there. Many people initially overlooked the region.” said President Museveni.

As is the norm, the head of state pledged continuous support to the deceased parliamentarian’s family. He promised to cover the school fees for Aleper’s children. On top of this, he promised to build a house for the family in Kampala. Similarly, Aleper’s widow was promised employment.

“We shall pay school fees for the children. I have also instructed my assistant to make sure they get a small house in Kampala.” President Museveni said.

A vigil will be held at the NRM party headquarters before Aleper’s body is flown to Moroto for a special sitting on July 27th. He will be laid to rest on Tuesday, July 30th.

Vice President Jessica Alupo remembered Aleper as an advocate of politics of service delivery. According to Alupo, he was instrumental in the unity of all the Karamojongs. She commended him for preaching politics of values and not identity.
