President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has launched another scathing attack on the opposition, saying they are always talking nonsense.
The President made his latest attack while commissioning the Bukedea Sports Park on Sunday afternoon. The sports complex, which was bankrolled by the Speaker of Parliament Anita Among, will host the 21st edition of the Federation of East Africa Secondary Schools Association (FEASSA) games.
“Being in opposition in Uganda is a big miracle because they are always speaking nonsense. They only speak about tribes, religion. I talk about productivity. Anybody who buys my milk is my friend. Whether he’s this religion or that religion. Whether he’s this tribe or that tribe, I judge people by how they support me and how I support them.” President Museveni stated.
During the event, which was attended by student athletes from East African countries, the President reiterated his message of patriotism. He revealed how he has denounced sectarianism and all its enablers. Additionally, Museveni revealed that sectarianism was the cause of his disagreements with the Democratic Party, Uganda People’s Congress, and the Kabaka Yekka political parties.
He also preached the message of East African integration, acknowledging that it’s the magic bullet to development. The President also added his voice to those commending the Bukedea Woman MP Anita Among for her initiatives in the district.
“Anita Among had been lost in those ‘wonderful’ groups, which talk about tribes, religion, and others. When I came for one of my rallies here, she was there. Later on, I came to know she was in the opposition, I didn’t know her then. I asked what she was doing in the opposition.” President Museveni remarked about Speaker Among’s transfer from FDC to NRM.
The President also pledged the Government’s intervention into the cassava markets, where prices are demoralizing farmers. Kachumbala County MP Patrick Isiagi had earlier asked for the President’s intervention in the cassava sector. Isiagi revealed that prices have drastically dropped from Shs 300 to Shs 100 per kilogram.
The event was attended by various dignitaries, ranging from business moguls and politicians to religious leaders. The East African Secondary School Championship kicked off on Sunday. The games will be hosted at Bukedea Comprehensive School in Bukedea District.
