President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has lashed out at a section of Buganda Clan leaders (Bataka) who traveled to Namibia to visit Kabaka Ronald Mwenda Mutebi without proper authorization.
The President expressed his disappointment in the Clan leaders (Bataka) in a July 11 letter. This comes after he was informed by the Permanent Secretary of Foreign Affairs about their predicament in Namibia.
On July 1, the Bataka, led by Kyaddondo Kasirye Mbugeeramula, traveled to Windhoek. The intention of their visit was to see the king, who is recovering from illness. Ugandan Exclusive understands that this trip was not sanctioned by the leadership of Mengo. However, we also established that preparations for this trip started after the clan leaders met the president on June 12 at State House Entebbe.
In the meeting, the delegation from the kingdom was led by the Minister of State for ICT, Hon. Joyce Nabbosa Ssebugwawo. Some of the clan leaders who traveled include Mawesano Deus Kyeyune (Ngaali) and Sheba Kakande (Ngeye). Others are Elias Lwasi Buuzaabo (Ndiga), Godfrey Natigo (Lugave premier), and Walusimbi Mbirozankya (Ngeye).
Once the Bataka touched down in Windhoek, they embarked on a futile journey to the medical facility hosting the Kabaka. As is the norm with such situations, Namibian security asked them to show authorization to see the King. For such a situation, only the King, his family, and the leadership at Mengo can authorize visitors.
Bataka create diplomatic mess
However, the Bataka had not consulted any of these persons ahead of their visit. This prompted the Namibian authorities to briefly detain them, creating a diplomatic embarrassment. It is with this background that the President has warned them to stop embarrassing the country. Additionally, the President cautioned them about opportunistically trying to show their support for the Kabaka.
“These dramas are happening away from our jurisdiction. Otherwise, we would have taken action.” President Museveni.
Kabaka Mutebi is receiving medical treatment at a facility in Okunguarri, Kunene Province. This is approximately 700 km from Windhoek.
