Police have summoned the leadership of the National Unity Platform (NUP) to answer queries about their recently launched leadership academy.
In a letter addressed to the Makerere Kavule leadership, SCP Kafeero Moses Kabugo confirmed the Police’s interest in the running of the academy.
NUP’s Secretary General, David Lewis Rubongoya, confirmed receipt of the letter dated 28th June through his Twitter account.
“It is in the best interest of the Uganda Police to ascertain the status of the school, content taught, and facilitators. You should not exceed three persons in the meeting.” SCP Moses Kafeero’s letter read in part.
Kafeero, who was writing on behalf of Inspector General of Police, Abbas Byakagaba, confirmed the scheduling of the meeting for the morning of Thursday, 4th July.
The meeting will be hosted by the Director of Human Resource Development and Training at the police headquarters. In the meeting, the police expect to ascertain the status of the school, content taught, and facilitators.
NUP warns police
Through their social media accounts, the NUP confirmed that they will attend the meeting. However, they cautioned the Police not to use this as a scapegoat to disrupt their activities.
The Kavule faithful also questioned the motive behind the Police’s sudden interest in their academy. They cited the numerous trainings organized by different political parties in which the Police never show interest.
“All political parties in Uganda have always undertaken training of their leaders and members. But we have not seen the police pick similar interest in their activities.” NUP stated.
They cited the ideological clinics run by the ruling NRM and FDC’s leadership academy.
“Other parties have always undertaken training, including ourselves. We have been training our leaders ever since we started—except that now, our School of Leadership has centralized these trainings.” the party added.
According to NUP, its training courses focus on the party’s values, principles, and goals.
President Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu, alias Bobi Wine, opened the leadership academy on June 10 in Kamwokya, Kampala.
By press time, NUP hadn’t yet arrived at the Police headquarters.
