Gerald Paul Kasaato has been appointed deputy managing director of the National Social Security Fund (NSSF), Uganda.
Kasaato’s promotion from the Acting position was confirmed by Dr. Peter Kimbowa, the NSSF board chairman.
“The Minister of Gender, Labour and Social Development has appointed Mr. Gerald Paul Kasaato as the substantive Deputy Managing Director of the National Social Security Fund (NSSF), Uganda,” Dr. Peter Kimbowa’s statement read in part.
Dr. Kimbowa also confirmed that Kasaato’s appointment came after a rigorous recruitment process. Kasaato’s rise to the number two position at the retirement Fund is a story of hard work and dedication.
Kasaato’s Career
He joined the Fund in July 2011 as a Portfolio Manager, Equities.Within three years, his exceptional capabilities saw him rise to Chief Investments Officer in April 2014. He served in this position for almost a decade until 2023. In 2023, Minister Betty Amongi refused to renew long-serving Executive Director Richard Byarugaba’s contract, freeing up the number one slot.
Byarugaba’s assistant, Patrick Ayota, was promoted to the top position. It was at this moment that Kasaato was appointed Deputy Managing Director in August 2023.
Prior to joining NSSF, Gerald Kasaato served as Finance and Investment Manager at the National Housing and Construction Company. While at the National Housing and Construction Company, he was also the Manager, Investment and Treasury. Additionally, his vast experience in finance has been acquired through serving in various financial institutions in the United Kingdom.
Kasaato is a CFA Charter holder, a Chartered Accountant of the UK, a Fellow of the Chartered Management Institute of the UK, and a Certified Public Accountant of Uganda. He holds an MBA in Finance from Exeter University in the UK, a Master of Science Degree in International Finance and Investments from the London Southbank University in the UK. H
e also obtained a Bachelor of Science Degree in Accounting from Oxford Brookes University in the UK, and a Bachelor of Laws Degree (LLB) from Nottingham Trent University in the UK. Kasaato has undertaken executive trainings at the University of Pennsylvania (US) and the London Business School in the UK.
