Former National Unity Platform (NUP) digital manager Ninye Tabz has leaked the salaries of NBS TV staff.
Tabz, who also worked at Next Media’s flagship TV NBS, made the expose on the social media platform X. The leak follows a week-long online battle between Tabz and several employees.
Earlier last week, Tabz alleged that he was never remunerated for his four months of service at NBS TV. This revelation was met with stiff resistance from some of Tabz’s former workmates. He also alleged that Joseph Sabiti led a smear campaign against him that got him fired.
Particularly, news anchor Simon Kaggwa Njala noted that Tabz was fired for being a police spy. It should be remembered that, prior to joining NBS TV, Tabz was the official photographer and social media manager for Police Uganda.
Next Media PRO rubbished the claims, saying Tabz was an intern and not eligible for pay.
The outburst was summed up on Tuesday morning when Tabz released screenshots of the salary structure in Naguru.
The expose has drawn scrutiny on the media conglomerate due to discrepancies in the structure.Notably, investigative journalist Canary Mugume earns UGX 6,310,000 per month. This figure caused uproar in contrast to others believed to be senior journalists. Despite his experience, Samson Kasumba takes home UGX 4,695,383.
Netizens were particularly surprised about how much Simon Kaggwa Njala earns, given his constant defense of the institution. The outspoken show host, who is also the longest-serving employee, earns UGX 1,787,691. Kevin Kaija Komuhendo, the Chief Operations Officer (COO) of Next Media, tops the list with UGX 10,730,908.
Next Media Group Chief Executive Officer Kin Kariisa has since responded to the revelations. Referring to Tabz as his son, he has requested the photojournalist to stop with the expose.
