MPs Championing Censure Motion Denouce Shs 2 Billion Bribe Claims

MPs championing the censure motion against four bankbench Parliamentary Commissioners have denied allegations of of taking a shs 2 billion bribe.

Hoima East Division MP Patrick Isingoma called the allegations detractions from the fight against corruption.

“Of course we have to be conscious that as we are proceeding with this important motion, there are detractors, those who want to push us off balance for their own selfish gains and also with the motive of failing this motion to ensure it doesn’t reach the floor of the plenary.” – Patrick Isingoma MP.

Isingoma called upon the four Commissioners that are being accused of fraudulently allocating themselves 1.7 billion to use the censure process as a means to vindicate themselves.

“But for us we are steadfast, committed in ensuring that this motion reaches its final conclusion. And I wonder why people are so scared of having the debate of this matter on the floor, why are people so scared?” Patrick Isingoma.

Brief History

Last week, allegations of the MPs soliciting a shs 2 billion bribe to dump the censure motion made rounds across multiple social media platforms.

This raised questions into the motives of the MPs led Lwemiyaga County’s Theodore Ssekikubo prompting them to address the concerns on Monday afternoon at Parliament.

Hon. Ssekikubo intends to achieve the removal of Esther Afoyochan (Zombo District Woman – NRM), Prossy Akampulira (Rubanda District Woman – NRM), Solomon Silwany (Bukooli Central – NRM), and Mathias Mpuuga (Nyendo-Mukungwe – NUP) from their positions as members of the Parliamentary Commission with his censure motion.

The three NRM legislators took home Shs 400 million each, while the former Leader of the Opposition banked Shs 500 million in a one-off personal service award.

Mpuuga’s party, the National Unity Platform, has since taken drastic measures, including firing him from his position as Deputy President for the Buganda region.
