MP Nsibambi Commends President Museveni For Rejecting Appropriation Bill

Mawokota South MP Yusuf Nsibambi has commended President Museveni for rejecting the Appropriation Bill 2024.

The Forum for Democratic Change Whip revealed his satisfaction with President Museveni’s decision while speaking to the media at Parliament on Wednesday afternoon.

The Appropriation Bill is the law that authorizes the expenditure of government funds. Parliament passed the bill on 16th May, authorizing the expenditure of shs 72 trillion for the financial year 2024/2025.

However, President Museveni has since sent it back to the House, highlighting discrepancies. The President accused the MPs of tampering with the bill without consulting the executive.

He called for a re-examination of the allocation of shs 750 billion by the Budget Committee. Budget Committee Chairperson Patrick Isiagi has been summoned to CID headquarters to answer questions on the same topic on Thursday, 27th June.

Honourable Nsibambi has joined the President in calling for an audit into the process. He expressed his dissatisfactionwith the appropriation of shs 14 trillion. According to Nsibambi, this was debated extensively as the corrigenda was brought in late at night.

“The budget has various avenues of wastage. Look at the classified accounts and outrageous administrative costs. My heart is hurting.” Yusuf Nsibambi said.

Hon. Nsibambi also called upon Parliament to view the budget as a national issue and not a reserve of a small committee. Much as he’s a member of the Budget Committee, he expressed his dissatisfaction with the 2024/2025 budget, saying it doesn’t capture the interests of the country.

Nsibambi cited the failure to consider sectoral reports as the reason he didn’t append his signature to the process.
