Kayemba Solo Says Ugandan Musicians Are Desperate

Bukomansimbi South MP Kayemba Solo has called Ugandan musicians desperate.

He attributes their desperation to the tough economic conditions in the country. Kayemba’s tough stance on the entertainers is in response to a visit they made to State House Entebbe to meet the President.

On Wednesday, newly appointed Presidential Advisor Eddy Kenzo led over 100 musicians in a meeting with the President. The meeting attracted several high-profile artists, including Anne Kansiime, Bebe Cool, and Jose Chameleone. Following the meeting, there was a consensus from both parties that the government would address their concerns.

However, the National Unity Platform MP warned the artists that this is just a facade and that they are being used by the President. Kayemba tasked the artists, particularly Eddy Kenzo, to reflect on past relationships the President has had.

“He [Kenzo] should learn from the past. He should look at people that have been close to [President] Museveni. Even those that the President fought with in the Bush are an example. The President is using Kenzo as bait for the 2026 elections.” Kayemba Solo said.

According to the MP, all this sudden interest by the President in the music industry is just reactionary. He says that since the President failed to deal with NUP President Robert Kyagulanyi, alias Bobi Wine, he thinks his fellow artists can weaken the former Firebase leader’s support base.

To Solo, as he’s popularly known, the President wants to use the Musicians Federation as a facade to suggest that artists don’t support Bobi Wine. He went on to advise the President that all these actions will be futile if he doesn’t address the challenges facing the youth.

“The President thinks Musuuza can neutralize the youth, but he is wrong. This is because the youth are hurt by the harsh living conditions, which are still existent. What is disturbing the President is the generation gap, so he doesn’t understand how to address the youth question.” Kayemba Solo said.
