Female music duo Kataleya & Kandle are expected at Police on July 4 to answer queries about libel.
The drama-followed pair were summoned by Police in Kampala following alleged defamatory statements. Uganda Exclusive can confirm that the statements were particularly targeting their former management, Theron Music Company Limited.
“This office is investigating an alleged case of libel vide the above-mentioned reference on Theron Music Company Limited.” the summons read in part.
Through a press release to the fans, Kataleya and Kandle confirmed that they’ll heed the police summons. They are expected to make statements in respect to the allegations at the regional CID Office Kampala Metropolitan East along Jinja Road.
Kataleya and Kandle also decried threats they had been receiving from unidentified people. These threats have been in the form of texts and calls. The duo said some of the callers falsely claimed to be music promoters seeking to book them for shows in Masaka.
They also expressed their concern about what they called acts of impunity by the perpetrators. These persons are said to have enlisted the help of individuals from the Chieftaincy of Military Intelligence (CMI) and the police’s Flying Squad to track them. However, they confirmed that all these efforts were unsuccessful.
Kataleya and Kandle disappointed in the process
Kataleya & Kandle also expressed their disappointment in how the CID issued summons for them. They called for mutual respect between the law enforcers and themselves.Their statement also captures the duo’s delight that their accusers ditched the illegal means and enlisted Police.
We assure our cooperation and will present ourselves to the legitimate police authorities to truthfully provide a statement regarding the malicious allegations against us by our accusers in a futile bid to intimidate us and stifle our legitimate music business and livelihood.
K and K statement.
The singing duo has been rocked by controversy for the better part of the last year. This started with a fallout between them and their previous management. The fallout ignited a six-month break from the industry without releasing or performing music. The duo would then rebrand as K and K Music, ditching their previous social media handles.
Unfortunately, their new Facebook and Instagram accounts were hacked on the same day they were launched. This left them access only to their X (formerly Twitter) and TikTok accounts.
To announce their return, K and K Music collaborated with Vinka to release a new song titled “Tompa.”
