NBS TV has suspended senior talk show host Simon Kaggwa Njala.
Ugandan Exclusive has learnt that the suspension, which will last two weeks, stems from his partisan utterances over the last couple of weeks. These culminated in his hosting of Mathias Mpuuga’s thanksgiving fete in Kitovu, Masaka, on June 21.
This, according to the management at the Naguru-based media conglomerate, violates their ethical guidelines.
Generally, the fourth estate is expected to be non-partisan.However, the outspoken Kaggwa Njala, a Democratic Party Cadre, has never shied away from showing his side.
His current predicament started when the National Unity Platform (NUP) fired Mathias Mpuuga from the role of Vice Chairperson, Buganda Region. This followed revelations that Mpuuga, alongside fellow Parliamentary Commissioners, had secretly awarded themselves UGX 1.7 billion.
Njala came to the defense of Mpuuga, who was castigated online for his actions. The former Busiro South MP “poured body” for his former DP comrade online.Kaggwa seems not to have taken the suspension lightly, as he went on a Twitter rant on Monday night.
“To every action or decision, there is a price to pay. Some prices are sweet, some bitter, while others are bittersweet. Regardless, always be ready to pay a price,” Kaggwa Njala posted on Twitter.
In another tweet, the veteran journalist hinted at taking time for a retreat.
“Time for a retreat. It’s always necessary to do an inner spiritual, career, political, and social introspection. May I use this time to learn, unlearn and relearn,” read another series of tweets by Kaggwa.
