Nigerian artist Joeboy, real name Joseph Akinwale Akinfenwa-Donus, delivered a breathtaking performance to his Ugandan audience on Saturday, July 27.
After promising his fans an unforgettable experience, the Adenuga hitmaker kept his promise at the Lavida Rave.
By 7 p.m., the Ugandan partygoers had started to throng the Lugogo Hockey Grounds for the Lavida Rave. This was also aided by the seamless access to the venue. A team from MCI Media Hub could not be missed, guiding the audience at both the entrance and within the grounds.
Similarly, ATS Events ensured the stage was up to par. Unlike other concerts of international acts in Uganda, the Lavida Rave didn’t feature local artists performing. Instead, the audience was treated to a unique experience of DJ battles between some of Uganda’s best.
In the first battle, Em that Guy and Eyo Mackus had the crowd gyrating to their meticulous mixes. With an all-expenses-paid trip to a selected Uganda Airlines destination at stake, Eyo Mackus just about edged out Em.
In the next set, female nightlife sensations Lynda Ddane and DJ Hady faced off. With Lynda Ddane concentrating on dancehall hits, Hady raised the audience with R&B.One of Kampala’s finest, DJ Aludah, set the audience up for Joeboy’s official DJ, ensuring that energy levels were at the frequency needed for Joeboy to jump on stage.
Joeboy on stage
At about 11:30 p.m., the singer celebrated for hits like “Baby” and “Alcohol” took to the stage with a charisma that electrified the audience. From the moment he began his set, it was clear that Joeboy had come prepared to deliver a memorable show. He performed a string of his chart-topping singles, each met with enthusiastic cheers from the crowd.
A highlight of the night was when he was joined by Ugandan urban artist Joshua Baraka. The duo performed their collaboration, a remix of the hit song “Nana.”
Other hits like “Beginner,” “Body and Soul,” “Nobody,” “All of You,” and “Number One” had the crowd singing along and dancing. By the end of the show, both Joeboy and the fans were definitely satisfied. He expressed his gratitude to the Ugandan audience for always supporting him.
“You guys [Ugandans] are the number one Joeboy fans. You started supporting my music even before I hit Nigeria. By the time I became a star in Lagos, Kampala was already booking me.” Joeboy said.
He reminisced about his first Kampala show in 2019, where he had to perform his hit songs at least five times. Unlike the 2019 tour, he performed dozens of hit songs at the Lavida Rave.
