The inaugural Uganda National Lottery will go live tomorrow, June 1, 2024, according to the operator, ITHUBA Uganda. They made this announcement during a media launch at their head office in Kampala on Thursday, May 31st.
The national lottery is expected to generate lots of excitement and opportunities for Ugandans, with guaranteed jackpots starting at over UGX 2.5 billion.
While speaking at the media launch, ITHUBA’s head of marketing, Michelle van Trotsenburg, said they’ll provide a fair, transparent, and responsible gaming environment.

With similar confidence, ITHUBA’s head of IT assured the media of the ability and commitment of her team to automate the entire lottery process.
Also present at the media launch was Denis Mudene Ngabirano, the CEO of the National Lotteries and Gaming Regulatory Board (NLGRB), who expressed the board’s confidence in Ithuba and why it was selected to take charge of the National Lottery.

According to Mudene, ITHUBA’s knowledge base and experience of conducting national lottery with decade-long experience in South Africa on top of their commitment to support local content were key in swaying the government.
Additionally, Uganda’s digitization campaign stands a chance to benefit from the data centre and infrastructure set up by ITHUBA.
“Our goal is to create a conducive environment where the Uganda National Lottery can thrive, providing a win-win for both the government and players,” said Ngabirano.

Starting June 1, 2024, tickets will be available for purchase at authorised shops, on the National Lottery’s website (nationallottery.go.ug), via the app, or by dialling *278#.
About ITHUBA UGANDA
ITHUBA Uganda is the official operator of Uganda’s first national lottery, authorised and regulated by the National Lotteries and Gaming Regulatory Board (NLGRB). They have a 10-year contract from the Finance Ministry to operate the lottery, which is tipped to generate funds for various public projects on top of contributing to the socioeconomic sectors.
