Job Purpose
The Assistant Credit Operations Team Leader aims to improve the performance and consistent success of their credit team in comprehensive goals of repayment (on-time and absolute), new clients, and disbursement. They will work alongside their team leader, support colleagues, and manage their own portfolio. Responsibilities include conducting due diligence on potential borrowers, analyzing creditworthiness and ability to repay, and effectively managing their portfolio while ensuring compliance with Numida’s methodology and policies.
Responsibilities
Quality of Portfolio & Credit Decision-Making
- Role-model proper underwriting decisions related to loan sizing, due diligence, lending decisions, and collection guidelines
- Support the team with identifying unmatched collections and assigning them to the right loan accounts
- Conduct final review of loans when the CTL is unavailable for loans not exceeding KES 75,000
- Identify early dismissed repeat loans and collaborate with concerned CROs and the CTL for reassessment
- Troubleshoot and disburse pending disbursements and escalate as required
Cross-Functional Support
- Standardize learning, innovations, and best practices across Credit Operations
- Collaborate with the Product team and participate in experiments to improve service quality and CRO role efficiency
- Support company initiatives towards strategy implementation, cultural improvement, and maintaining a positive work environment
- Lead team initiatives as requested by management
Performance Management & Leadership
- Ensure team members adhere to Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) through monitoring call lists
- Monitor key metrics (on-time collection rates, 15 DPD collections rate, overall team performance) on a daily, weekly, and monthly basis
- Train and develop new hires and direct reports, prepare monthly one-on-one sessions, and conduct collective team training
- Assist CTL in problem-solving and priority issues to support team performance standards
- Review poor-performing portfolios, identify gaps, and provide requisite support
- Act as the CTL in their absence, addressing all team-related matters
- Proactively analyze and evaluate portfolio segments needing additional attention and escalate issues as necessary
Your Profile
- 3 years of experience in a credit officer or related role
- Proficient in computer and mobile technology, experienced with Android apps and desktop productivity software (Google Drive, Google Sheets, Google Docs, etc.)
- Verbal and written fluency in both English and Luganda; fluency in other Ugandan languages is an asset
- Ability to provide customer care via chat using professional, concise, and slang-free English
- Knowledge and practical experience with principles of great customer care and superb phone etiquette
- Exceptional organizational skills and attention to detail
- Excellent interpersonal skills and high levels of empathy
- Type 30+ words per minute (desired)
