Position: Sector Manager (1 Position)

Reports to: Range Manager
Duty Station: Field-based; must be willing to work in hard-to-reach areas
Salary Scale: NFA 5
Terms of Employment: Three (3) year contract (Renewable)

Job Summary: The Sector Manager will implement forest management plans, guidelines, and procedures to ensure the protection and sustainable management of Central Forest Reserves.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Protect and sustainably manage Central Forest Reserves.
  • Prepare and implement annual operating plans.
  • Ensure generation of projected revenue and financial sustainability initiatives.
  • Manage, monitor performance, and report all licensed activities within the sector CFRs and maintain an updated register.
  • Plan and execute forest restoration and other affirmative silviculture operations.
  • Organize and participate in stakeholder engagements with district local governments, sub-counties, and local communities.
  • Initiate, implement, promote, and monitor collaborative forest management processes and other stakeholder partnerships.
  • Ensure regular maintenance of NFA assets, forest boundaries, and other infrastructure.
  • Develop and implement fire plans within the sector.
  • Supervise, appraise, coach, mentor, and build staff capacity.
  • Prepare situational, monthly, quarterly, and annual performance reports.
  • Undertake field support and supervision of seed collection, establishment, and protection of seed sources.
  • Participate in periodic assessments of forests.
  • Perform any other duties as assigned by the supervisor.

Qualifications, Skills, and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s Degree (Honors’) in Forestry from a reputable institution.
  • Minimum of three (3) years working experience in forestry management.
  • Training in management is an added advantage.
  • Minimum of twenty-eight (28) years of age.
  • Strong leadership, management, interpersonal, team-building, and organizational skills.
  • Good communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage the supply chain for silviculture, harvesting operations, and logistics.
  • Knowledge of human resource, financial management, and administration.
  • High level of integrity, resilience, and reliability.
  • Entrepreneurial ability and result-oriented work habits.

Vacancy: Transport Assistant

Position: Transport Assistant (4 Positions)

Reports to: Transport Officer/Relevant Field Officer
Duty Station: Headquarter/Field-based; must be willing to work in hard-to-reach areas
Salary Scale: NFA 8
Terms of Employment: Three (3) year contract (Renewable)

Job Summary: The Transport Assistant will drive, maintain, and manage NFA vehicles while ensuring the safety of passengers in compliance with NFA Transport Policy and relevant regulations.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Drive NFA vehicles as directed by the supervisor.
  • Prepare and submit vehicle defects and repair requests timely.
  • Ensure regular vehicle servicing and maintenance in accordance with the service chart.
  • Maintain vehicle travel records and ensure they are authorized by the supervisor.
  • Keep vehicle repair and maintenance records.
  • Observe and comply with road safety and traffic laws.
  • Ensure vehicles are in good running condition and clean.
  • Maintain adequate cleaning supplies for the vehicle.
  • Perform any other duties as assigned by the supervisor.

Qualifications, Skills, and Experience:

  • Minimum of Uganda Certificate of Education or equivalent.
  • Valid Driving Permit of Classes B and CM/C.
  • Competence driving test certificate is a MUST.
  • CH, DL or DM/CIE, CE, D1, D1E, D or C1 class is an added advantage.
  • Certificate in defensive driving or motor vehicle mechanics is an added advantage.
  • Minimum of three (3) years working experience in a similar or related position.
  • Minimum of thirty (30) years of age.
  • Computer literate.
  • Good decision-making, analytical, and communication skills.
  • High level of integrity, resilience, and reliability.
  • Self-respect, team-building, and organizational skills.
