About ZOA DRIVE Project:
The DRIVE project aims to achieve a resilient local food system in the West Nile region by enhancing productivity and production among smallholder farmers, including women and youth. Through the use of climate-smart agroecological practices and sustainable land/water management techniques, we seek to increase participation in profitable local and regional markets. The project employs the Participatory Integrated Plan (PIP) approach to support behavioral change among farmers and households. Spanning 36 months, DRIVE is implemented in Terego and Madi Okollo Districts, with one local implementing partner and one technical partner.
Job Summary:
The Project Officer – DRIVE, supported by the Project Manager and collaborating with other Project Officers, is responsible for the day-to-day planning and implementation of ZOA activities under the DRIVE project in Terego and Madi Okollo districts, West Nile. The role involves mobilizing and training farmers in the Participatory Integrated Plan (PIP) approach, supervising the scale-up of PIP to other farmers through farmer-to-farmer training, and facilitating farmers’ linkages to viable markets. The Project Officer will also closely collaborate with other ZOA livelihoods project teams to ensure coordinated and integrated support to project participants.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
Project Planning and Implementation:
- Implement project activities to achieve optimal outputs and outcomes in line with ZOA/donor procedures and targets.
- Ensure consistency of project activities and outputs with the project proposal, logframes, and quality standards.
- Facilitate and participate in capacity-building events/trainings on PIP methodology, technical skills, and facilitation.
- Support the creation and implementation of PIPs by farmers and their families, including supervision of experimental plots.
- Facilitate documentation and learning among PIP farmers and support the formation of farmers groups and market linkages.
- Provide technical backstopping and support to PIP implementation and market linkages.
- Perform any other duties as assigned by the supervisor in line with the project.
Reporting and Knowledge Management, MEAL:
- Provide inputs to implementation plans and prepare activity/monthly reports.
- Identify and document lessons learned and best practices.
- Prepare and submit well-written success stories.
- Contribute to project reports or implementation plans as required.
- Collect monitoring data according to ZOA’s systems and activities in the project.
Representation and Coordination:
- Actively participate in relevant technical working groups and coordination meetings at sub-county and parish levels.
- Collaborate closely with local government actors at sub-county and village levels.
- Work closely with partner staff to implement the project.
Procurement and Finance:
- Initiate timely purchase requisition of project goods/services.
- Ensure expenses align with approved budget and provide appropriate coding.
Accountability:
- Sensitize stakeholders on feedback and complaint mechanisms.
- Document and report complaints or feedback as per reporting procedures.
- Work closely with MEAL team to analyze feedback and complaints for program improvement.
Qualifications, Skills, and Experience:
- Degree in agricultural science or related fields.
- Specialized training as a ToT in Participatory Integrated Plan (PIP) or Farmer Field School (FFS) methodology is a plus.
- Minimum of 2 years’ successful experience in a similar position implementing related projects.
- Working experience in a humanitarian setting is advantageous.
- Understanding of the local context, culture, and language(s).
- Excellent spoken and written command of English.
Skills:
- Good facilitation skills, especially with illiterate farmers.
- Strong communication and writing skills.
- Innovative, creative, and enthusiastic.
- Proficiency in Ms Excel and Ms Word.
- Self-motivated and able to work with limited supervision.
- Ability to drive a motorcycle with a valid license class “A”.
- Language skills in relevant local languages are a plus.
