Background: The International Rescue Committee (IRC) is a leading crisis response agency providing life-saving assistance and supporting recovery for people affected by war and natural disasters. The IRC has been active in Uganda since 1998, implementing programs in public health, education, livelihoods, women’s empowerment, youth development, and rights protection.

Scope of Work: The Multimedia and Communications Officer will work under the Deputy Project Coordinator – Project and Grants Management, in collaboration with project workstreams, and will also report to the IRC Uganda Communication and Advocacy Coordinator. The role involves supporting multimedia and communications aspects to enhance project outcomes for PlayMatters-Uganda. Responsibilities include external and internal communications, content creation, and innovative digital engagement.

Specific Responsibilities:

Technical Implementation of Project Activities:

  • Draft, edit, and distribute content for the PlayMatters website, blogs, press releases, and media articles.
  • Produce visual content for project events, including flyers, digital invitations, posters, video teasers, and video recaps.
  • Conduct client interviews to collect stories of change and case studies.
  • Support video and photo coverage for project events and documentation.
  • Collaborate with management to develop an effective communications strategy for PlayMatters.
  • Create and produce internal newsletters.
  • Design promotional items like reports, PowerPoints, and other IEC materials.
  • Coordinate and draft articles and success stories for internal and external communications.
  • Develop and roll out communications, brand, and visibility concepts.
  • Work with consortium partners to identify multimedia content needs and opportunities.
  • Share knowledge on design and communications activities with project staff.
  • Monitor multimedia solutions and disseminate learnings to stakeholders.
  • Assess and identify soft and hardware requirements.

Coordination, Representation, and Partner/Stakeholder Relationships:

  • Develop and maintain relationships with journalists and disseminate audio-visual content.
  • Ensure media coverage during special events in consultation with the Communications and Advocacy Coordinator.
  • Identify needs and opportunities for multimedia content development with consortium partners.

Monitoring, Reporting, and Communication Responsibilities:

  • Support preparations for advocacy activities and report writing.
  • Maintain records of media coverage and collate analytics and metrics.
  • Liaise with the MEAL team to monitor multimedia solutions and manage collected data.
  • Manage relationships with partners and resolve conflicts in media-related activities.
  • Participate in regular team meetings and ensure multimedia and communication materials are ready for information sessions.

Partnerships and Gender, Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (GEDI):

  • Support IRC partners as needed.
  • Promote a safe and respectful environment by participating in safeguarding training and activities.

Other Duties:

  • Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor.
  • Raise purchase requests when required.
  • Work constructively within the team and take the initiative on new tasks.

Qualifications:

  • 1-2 years of relevant experience in communication, writing, graphic design, illustration, and audio-visual production.
  • Strong writing, verbal, and non-verbal communication skills.
  • Experience in writing press releases and pitching stories.
  • Proficiency in creative graphic design and video production software (e.g., Adobe InDesign, Illustrator, Premier Pro, Final Cut Pro).
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and using DSLR cameras and other video production equipment.
  • Good organizational skills and ability to work under pressure.
  • Understanding of the Uganda Education System and humanitarian crises is an advantage.
  • Ability to engage and build relationships with local partner organizations.
  • Strong team spirit and ability to work in a multicultural environment.

Scope of Work: Reporting to the HR and Admin Officer, the HR/Admin Volunteer will provide support for daily administrative functions and general office management of the IRC Kiryandongo office.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Create new staff personnel files.
  • Support recruitment exercises, including sorting and longlisting applications.
  • Update existing personnel files.
  • Maintain and update the timesheet tracking database for national staff.
  • Support new staff onboarding.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date personnel records.
  • Stamp HR-related documents.
  • Organize HR office documents/paperwork.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resource Management or related field.
  • Ability to work under pressure and manage multiple priorities.
  • Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills.
  • Effective communication skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • 1 year of relevant professional experience in Human Resources.
  • Knowledge and experience with HRIS.
  • Experience working with an international NGO in a cross-cultural setting.
  • Ability to maintain discretion and confidentiality.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work independently.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
