Position Overview
We are hiring two Agriculture Officers to oversee and enhance agriculture extension interventions in Kitagwenda and Rakai. This role involves designing and implementing agricultural programs, providing technical support, and training community members and staff.
Main Responsibilities
Program Design and Innovation
- Collaborate with the PEAL team to design and plan agriculture extension activities.
- Introduce new agricultural innovations, particularly focusing on climate resilience.
- Review and provide feedback on project designs to ensure feasibility.
Technical Support
- Advise on planting, fertilizing, harvesting, and storage techniques.
- Identify and manage crop pests and diseases.
- Examine soil and topographical characteristics for optimal crop yields.
- Support the implementation of agricultural pilot projects.
- Guide seed specifications with procurement officers.
Facilitation and Training
- Conduct training sessions for RTV staff and local government extension officers.
- Develop and update training materials in local languages.
- Train Community Agricultural Trainees (CATs) on RTV methodologies.
Project Management
- Identify and address key issues and risks in agricultural projects.
- Monitor planting, germination, and harvests to meet organizational targets.
- Develop and execute monthly work plans.
- Collect and analyze data on agricultural metrics.
Administration and Coordination
- Attend meetings to discuss agricultural issues and improvements.
- Handle financial requests, submissions, and reconciliations.
- Document and share project progress with photos and reports.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Agriculture, Community Development, or a related field.
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in agriculture and community development.
- Knowledge of organic pesticide use, soil management, and crop/pest management.
- Strong facilitation, training, and communication skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Suite and local languages (Midwest or Southwest Uganda).
- Ability to work independently and travel frequently (up to 80% of the time).
