About the Role: The Trans Youth Initiative is looking for 10 passionate Peer Educators to join their team in Mbarara, Uganda. This role involves engaging with the community to promote gender equality and health rights through education and outreach. Successful candidates will work under the guidance of the Project Coordinator and will play a critical role in fostering community support and understanding.

Major Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Conduct outreach initiatives in community settings to promote health education and gender equality awareness.
  2. Design and deliver training sessions on health and gender rights.
  3. Facilitate and manage support group meetings.
  4. Coordinate the distribution of educational materials and health resources.
  5. Collect and analyze feedback from community engagement activities.
  6. Organize and participate in community events and workshops.

Qualifications, Skills, and Experience:

  1. Experience in community outreach, health education, or related fields.
  2. Lived experience within the Key Population community.
  3. High school certificate or relevant certificate required; additional education in related fields is valued.
  4. Exceptional verbal and written communication skills.
  5. Ability to address sensitive issues with tact and empathy.
  6. High levels of empathy and resilience.
  7. Fluency in local languages.
  8. Ability to work well in a team setting.
  9. Understanding of cultural sensitivities related to gender and health issues.
  10. Proficiency in English for drafting reports and communicating with stakeholders.
  11. Proficiency in local dialects used in Central and Western Uganda.
  12. Computer proficiency, including social media and online communication tools.
  13. Ability to ride a motorcycle is an added advantage.
