Goalkeeper Bashir Ssekagya Seals Return to Vipers

Goalkeeper Bashir Ssekagya has completed his transfer to Vipers Sports Club.

Ssekagya’s move to the Kitende money bags marks the start of his second stint on Entebbe Road. He joins Vipers on a three-year deal, cementing his stay at Vipers until the end of the 2026/27 season.

“Ssekagya has committed to a three-year contract with the Venoms, securing his stay until the end of the 2026/27 season.” Vipers SC stated.

Ssekagya Profile

Born on February 18th, 1998, Bashir started playing football in his early childhood, but it was not until 2017 that he got attention. As his club UPDF battled relegation in the 2017-2018 season, Ssekagya impressed as his exploits in goal cushioned the side.

Following his spectacular performance between the sticks in Bombo, he made a trip to Entebbe Road to join Vipers. With long-serving number one Ismail Watenga leaving the country, Ssekagya was touted to fill his gloves at Kitende. However, all didn’t go according to plan as he left Vipers, crossing the border to Kenya.

In Kenya, he played for Wazito FC from 2021 until returning to the UPL two years ago. Upon his return to Uganda, he joined Wakiso Giants for two years, playing 28 games last season. His move to Vipers comes after his impressive display against them in the FUFA Super 8 semi-finals.

Turning out for a Cranes Select team, Bashir kept Sam Ssimbwa’s side in the game with his acrobatic saves until Allan Okello sunk them.

Ssekagya’s transfer to Vipers gives goalkeeping coach Ali Kimera a selection headache. With an array of talent ranging from Congolese Alfred Mudekereza, Jack Komakech, and Derrick Kiggundu, one cannot guess who’ll be the Kitende number one next season.

Additionally, Ssekagya is the sixth signing in an unusually quiet transfer season at Kitende. He joins forward Kenneth Kimera, Gusto Mulongo, Derrick Ndahiro, Pedro Sukuya, and Nicholas Wadada.
