Fast-rising Ugandan multi-genre talent, recording artist, songwriter, and performer Dreventy has announced plans to release new music.
Born Derrick Talemwa, Dreventy reintroduced himself onto the music scene in 2022 with a 5-track solo EP titled “Blue Detail.” In Blue Detail, Dreventy’s voice, accompanied by his lyrical content, made him one of the most sought-after urban artists in the city. He would later go on to release a single, “Ma Way,” in February 2023. Ma Way’s release ignited a musical hiatus of close to two years.
However, this break is set to come to an end according to a recent letter he posted on the social media platform X, formerly Twitter. Dreventy announced plans to release a new single on Tuesday, July 16. In a letter to the fans, Dreventy acknowledged that the two-year break was a long one for his fans. However, he promised them that the July 16 release was just the first of many more.
He confirmed that he has other projects in the pipeline that will roll out in the last half of 2024. Additionally, Dreventy also hinted at a plan to headline live performances at select venues that will be announced.
He explained that he took the break to re-strategize and return with new material.
About Dreventy
Born Derrick Talemwa, Dreventy’s deep musical roots trace back to his childhood and later at school events; singing both covers and originals; his proudest work being a cover of Alicia Keys & Jussie Smollett’s ‘Powerful’ from Empire. Dreventy debuted onto the scene back in 2018 with the release of a series of song covers, including Black Panther soundtrack “Pray For Me” by The Weeknd & Kendrick Lamar, and Sam Smith’s ‘Too Good At Goodbyes,” among others. His cover of Ed Sheeran’s ‘Perfect’ earned him recognition as one of Soundcity’s 11 Underground Talented Rising Stars to Hear. He also emerged in second place at the Penda singing contest auditions back in 2019. In the same year, he released his first-ever single, “I Won’t Forget,” followed by “Promises” in 2020, and “5 Ways” in 2021.
