Former presidential candidate Abed Bwanika has said National Unity Platform president Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu, alias Bobi Wine, ferried supporters from Kampala to Masaka. The Kimanya MP made these remarks on his account on social media platform X, formerly Twitter, in response to his party’s tour of Masaka on Friday, 31st May.
Last week, NUP launched their countrywide mobilization tours with plans of visiting Kamuli, Bugweri, and Pallisa in the first week. However, this was not to be as Police halted their trip to Kamuli by blocking their entrance into the town. Similar force was used by Police the next day as Bobi Wine’s entourage was cut off at Ssezibwa Bridge on Kayunga Road en route to Bugweri.
Following this interference, NUP leadership, led by Leader of Opposition in Parliament Joel Ssenyonyi, went to Police headquarters in Naguru on Monday, 27th May, to engage with the leadership of Police on a way forward. With a consensus met, the Makerere Kavule hit the road to Mukono on Wednesday, 29th May.
Up next on their agenda was a mobilization tour to opposition stronghold Masaka District. The Masaka trip attracted lots of attention because of the public fallout between the NUP President Kyagulanyi and his deputy in charge of Buganda, Mathias Mpuuga.

Origin of Disagreements.
The fallout reportedly originated from disagreements over a 500m service award given to the Nyendo Mukungwe MP following his tenure as LOP. According to NUP, this was a case of corruption and didn’t resonate with their values.
After NUP pulled the plug and fired Mpuuga from the deputy president role, battlegrounds were drawn and dragged in various Masaka leaders, where Mpuuga is considered a political rainmaker.
Much as Mpuuga has been silent about the rift, his Masaka counterpart Abed Bwanika has been public with his disappointment in the Kavule leadership.
