Bobi Wine Cautions Artists Against Crafty Museveni

Firebase President Bobi Wine, whose real name is Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu, has credited himself for the recent interest of the state in matters concerning creatives.

“It was because of me coming out as an artist. That showed the leaders that the role of musicians is not just singing and dancing, but that they too are knowledgeable.” said Bobi Wine.

The “Katala” hitmaker made the revelation while responding to the appointment of fellow artist Eddy Kenzo as a presidential advisor. Last Wednesday, President Museveni appointed the Uganda National Musician Federation President to advise him on the creatives industry.

Kenzo’s appointment has been met with diverse reactions. Some believe that his appointment will improve the sector, while others argue that it burdens the already bloated public administration expenditure.

“When I came out, they decided to pick out a few artists and told them their job is to weaken and fight the person who is talking about the things that affect them. Even the word ‘Ghetto’ is now respected by the government because of me. It is good that because of us, the people who were once despised are respected.” NUP President

who has since moved into politics and now leads the opposition National Unity Platform. He cautioned musicians to stick to their demands and warned them that the president is craftily cozying up to them to silence them from discussing issues affecting the country.

“He (President Yoweri Museveni) did not even know there were artists, but he knows now that we are here and he is stalking them. He is calling them, giving them money, not because he likes them, but because he wants to compromise them.”
