Job Summary:
Responsible for collaborating with other medical staff on the integration of psychiatric treatment with basic healthcare services to ensure the treatment of patients suffering from severe and common psychiatric disorders.
Job Responsibilities:
- Assess, diagnose, treat, and manage patients with mental illnesses and psychiatric disorders; refer complicated cases to Medical Officer.
- Administer, use, and monitor reactions to psychotropic and other medications.
- Support clients in understanding the nature of emotional disturbances and mental illness and accepting the need for treatment with specific attention to the cultural context.
- Maintain accurate records and documentation of patient treatments and laboratory results according to standard medical recordkeeping and MTI policy.
- Participate in community mobilization and sensitization on mental health issues.
- Support medicine management for psychiatric drugs for regional health facilities in close collaboration with the Medical Coordinator.
- Provide training for medical staff on the diagnosis and treatment of severe and common mental health disorders.
- Ensure data collected is accurate and submit reports according to schedule.
- Ensure that medical practices are conducted with the highest level of integrity and ethics according to professional and MTI Code of Conduct.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Education: Diploma in Mental Health required.
- Licenses & Certifications: Registration with Allied Health Professionals Council and a valid practicing license required.
- Experience: 2 years of psychiatric medicine practice required. Experience working with international NGOs is an added advantage.
- Knowledge & Skills: Knowledge of professional psychiatric medicine principles, procedures, and techniques used in the care and treatment of psychiatric patients. Skilled in applying professional psychiatric medicine principles and procedures in the evaluation and treatment of psychiatric patients.

Job Summary:
Responsible for performing consultations in OPD and IPD units in line with MoH protocol and clinical guidelines to diagnose, treat and manage patients. Performs surgery within competency and controls the rational distribution of medicine to improve patients’ health conditions.
Job Responsibilities:
- Perform OPD/IPD ward rounds to assess patient condition, diagnose and prescribe treatment and/or refer complicated cases in line with clinical guidelines and hygiene protocols.
- Determine when IPD patients should be discharged or transferred, ensuring referrals are managed efficiently to minimize complications.
- Control the rational distribution of medicine and equipment; ensure sterilization and good maintenance of medical equipment.
- Keep the patient and family informed about the illness and provide appropriate explanations about the treatment to follow; verify understanding to ensure informed consent and adherence to treatment.
- Ensure data traceability by recording all medical activities on the patient card and in registration books such that patient treatment is continuous.
- Assist with and perform surgical interventions and clinical procedures within competency.
- Attend to emergency cases in the health facility.
- Participate in the recruitment of medical staff.
- Ensure general hygiene standards and universal precautions are followed at all times and implement and monitor actions to reduce bio-hazard risks and improve infection control.
- Ensure ongoing training of the medical/paramedical multidisciplinary team to optimize the quality of care.
- Participate in the collection and analysis of epidemiological data, checking its validity, and informing the Medical Coordinator about any problem or complication of the patients’ illness, including medical errors.
- Ensure that medical practices are conducted with the highest level of integrity and ethics according to professional and MTI Codes of Conduct.
Qualifications:
- Education: Bachelors Degree in Medicine and Surgery required.
- Licenses & Certifications: Registration with Uganda Medical and Dental Practitioners Council and a valid practicing license required.
- Experience: 2 years of work experience in hospital practice relating to primary health care, maternal and child health, reproductive health, HIV/AIDS, and communicable diseases required. Experience working with international NGOs is an added advantage.
- Knowledge & Skills: Knowledge of primary health care, maternal and child health, reproductive health, HIV and AIDS, communicable diseases, surgery, pediatrics, obstetrics, and gynecology. Skilled in applying clinical medicine principles and procedures in the evaluation and treatment of patients.
