The Unit, based at UVRI Entebbe with outposts in various districts, addresses evolving health challenges through multidisciplinary research.
Job Purpose:
The Nursing Officer will mobilize and engage LEAN-D study participants, administer questionnaires, conduct physical measurements, and handle sample collection and basic medical care. This role also involves participant education, data management, and transportation reimbursement.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Implement daily research activities and collaborate with clinical staff and investigators.
- Trace and recruit eligible participants, provide education, and administer consent forms.
- Collect data, administer investigational agents, and perform sample handling according to SOPs.
- Provide basic medical care, track lab results, and ensure adherence to study protocols.
- Offer health education, counseling, and resolve data queries.
- Manage transport reimbursement for participants and address recruitment challenges.
Qualifications, Skills, and Experience:
- Diploma or Degree in Nursing.
- Relevant short courses (research methods, GCP training, diabetes training).
- At least 3 years of clinical and research experience, preferably in diabetes research.
- Strong nursing, counseling, computer, and communication skills.
- Personal attributes: Integrity, emotional resourcefulness, and proactive approach.

About the Organisation:
The MRC UK, in collaboration with LSHTM, focuses on advancing research in health through interdisciplinary approaches. The Unit supports research in HIV, infectious diseases, and more, with its base at UVRI Entebbe and various district outposts.
Job Purpose:
The Laboratory Technologist will perform lab assays on study samples, adhering to SOPs and health guidelines, and contribute to various research studies.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Conduct lab tests including stool analysis, malaria smears, HIV testing, and more.
- Handle sample collection, processing, and storage following protocols.
- Maintain equipment, ensure stock levels, and implement GCLP practices.
- Assist with lab training, write and review SOPs, and participate in community activities.
Qualifications, Skills, and Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in Medical Laboratory Techniques or related field; Master’s preferred.
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in a research lab setting, with knowledge of immunology.
- Proficiency in automated lab assays and adherence to safety and procedural standards.
- Personal attributes: Integrity, reliability, and willingness to learn.
