JOB DETAILS: Makerere University School of Public Health through the Department of Epidemiology and Biostatistics in collaboration with Windsor Laboratory Uganda Limited received funding from the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovations (STI/OP) to conduct an observational study titled “Vitamin D as a Therapy for Chronic Conditions: Covid-19, Diabetes, High Blood Pressure, and Malaria.” The study will also offer training and mentorship sessions to selected medical doctors, nutrition scientists, laboratory technicians, and clinical officers to equip them with knowledge about Vitamin D therapy, testing, and diet supplementation.
Laboratory Technologist
JOB DESCRIPTION: The Laboratory Technologist will be responsible for conducting laboratory tests, managing laboratory equipment, and ensuring accurate documentation of test results. They will work closely with the study team to support research activities related to the Vitamin D therapy study.
KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Conduct laboratory tests as required by the study protocol.
- Maintain and calibrate laboratory equipment.
- Ensure proper documentation and handling of specimens.
- Participate in the training and mentorship sessions for other healthcare professionals.
- Adhere to safety and quality standards in the laboratory.
- Keep accurate records of laboratory activities and results.
- Assist in data collection and analysis for the study.
- Perform any other duties as requested by the supervisor.

Experience in Months: 24
Level of Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Medical Laboratory Science or a related field

Clinical Officer
JOB DESCRIPTION: The Clinical Officer will provide support to the clinical associate and medical supervisor in medical assessment of participants, collecting important clinical details, performing clinical examinations and relevant tests, and conducting follow-up data collection in the clinic/field.
KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Clinical evaluation and care of participants in consultation with study physicians.
- Offer pre-test counseling to participants.
- Actively participate in weekly CMEs.
- Conduct health education for potential participants as guided by SOPs.
- Ensure proper documentation of history, examination findings, and management in consultation with study physicians.
- Seek informed consent from potential participants.
- Adhere to professional codes of conduct and ethics.
- Maintain complete and accurate inventory of medicines and supplies at the clinic.
- Perform any other duties as requested by the supervisor.

Nurse
JOB DESCRIPTION: The Nurse will be responsible for ensuring high-quality and efficient clinical services to clients, ensuring adherence to high standards in assessments, handling emergencies, treatment, and administration of medicines according to MOH guidelines.
KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Attend to clients and provide treatments as prescribed by clinicians.
- Actively monitor patients’ vitals and promptly inform clinicians when necessary.
- Dispense drugs and other medical items to clients as needed.
- Provide health counseling and education to study participants.

- Ensure health safety and proper waste disposal in adherence to good practices of infection prevention and control.
