Job Summary

The Financial Inclusion & Agricultural Marketing Specialist will provide high-level technical and professional support to DCA and its local partners on aspects of financial inclusion, digitalization of VSLAs, and overall inclusive pro-poor market system development.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

  • Conduct knowledge and skills assessments.
  • Develop training materials and resources.
  • Provide mentorship and ongoing technical support.
  • Work closely with DCA project staff and partner staff to identify, establish, and maintain savings groups.
  • Empower groups by training beneficiaries on VSLA methodology.
  • Collaborate with Financial Service Providers.
  • Develop and implement strategies for inclusive and pro-poor market system development.
  • Conduct market analysis and value chain assessments.
  • Actively participate in periodic meetings and events documentation.
  • Develop and implement monitoring and evaluation frameworks.

Qualifications, Skills, and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Agricultural Economics, Entrepreneurship, Business Administration, Finance, Agribusiness, Development Studies, and 8 years of experience; or a Master’s degree in similar fields and 5 years of experience.
  • Proven experience in organizing and supporting VSLAs.
  • Strong understanding of inclusive market systems and value chain development.
  • Excellent training and capacity-building skills.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication and people skills.
  • Fluency in English; knowledge of local languages is an asset.
  • Knowledge and experience of VSLA methodology.
  • Knowledge of the financial literacy curriculum in Uganda’s context.
  • Ability to work in a challenging and dynamic environment with minimal supervision.

Job Summary

The Resilient Design-Soil & Water Engineer will be responsible for the rollout of the community & household level resilience design approach in DCA Uganda Operations. Will design and implement soil conservation and water harvesting structures to support resilient and restorative agriculture.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

  • Spearhead and provide high-level technical guidance for the implementation of Resilience Design approach.
  • Engage with local communities and relevant stakeholders.
  • Landscape assessment through transect walks and Geospatial mapping.
  • Design soil conservation and water harvesting structures.
  • Develop detailed design plans, technical specifications, and BOQs.
  • Oversee the construction process.
  • Conduct regular site visits.
  • Implement quality assurance protocols.
  • Produce payment certificates upon satisfactory completion of construction work.
  • Coordinate with other team members, stakeholders, and community members.
  • Prepare and submit regular progress reports.
  • Support the integration of gender-sensitive and inclusive approaches.
  • Conduct training sessions.
  • Promote transparency and accountability through DCA complaint and feedback mechanisms.
  • Participate in project design and proposals development.

Qualifications, Skills, and Experience

  • Master’s degree in water & soil engineering, Resilience Design, landscape architecture, or a related field and at least 5 years of practical field-based experience; or Bachelor’s degree in similar fields and 8 years of practical field-level experience.
  • Strong understanding of soil, water, and plant interactions.
  • Ability to engage with and train community members and stakeholders.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficiency in using relevant engineering software and tools.
  • Strong knowledge of resilience design/landscaping practices.
  • Proficiency in participatory approaches and methodologies.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Cultural sensitivity and ability to work effectively with diverse communities.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
