This position reports to: Country HR Manager
Your Role and Responsibilities:
ABB Uganda and Tanzania understand that young talent is the future. We strive to recruit and develop young talent by providing the best working and learning environment to shape the future together. As a trainee at ABB Southern Africa cluster, you will gain hands-on experience in one of the leading Engineering, Technology, and Innovation companies in the world, and develop skills beyond classroom learning.
Our Young Talent Programs are based on the 70:20:10 Model of Learning and Development:
- Hands-on (70%)
- Asking questions (20%)
- Classroom (10%)
We recognize that the world of work is constantly evolving. To progress within the organization, you will need more than just technical skills. During your time at ABB Uganda and Tanzania, we will equip you with soft skills to connect, create your identity, and promote yourself in any working environment. In addition to formally learning about our products through our online Learning Management System and face-to-face classroom training (10%), you will spend most of your time working with our actual products and systems (70%), and be exposed to industry experts and leaders who will answer your questions and provide career guidance (20%).
For the 2024 Intake, we are looking for graduates in the following areas:
- Electrical Engineering: Exposure to Testing of Switchgear, including Primary, Secondary, Modular, and commissioning, and working with electrical and mechanical designs for switchgears.
- Mechanical Engineering: Exposure to basic design, electrical and mechanical workings of Electrical Motors.
- Control and Instrumentation: Exposure to working with Control Systems, Field Instrumentation and Actuators, and Design and Commissioning of Distributed Control Systems (DCS).
- Industrial Engineering: Exposure and learning from Factory Operations, Time Studies, and Process Improvements.
- Computer Engineering/Mechatronics: Exposure across the business to drive the development and promotion of the 4th Industrial Revolution – ABB Ability.

Qualifications for the Role:
- Engineering Trainee Program Qualification: Masters, BSc, B-tech, or Diploma in Electrical, Mechatronics, Mechanical, Industrial & Computer Engineering
- Strong Oral & Written Communication Skills
- Problem-solving, creativity, and innovation
- Interpersonal skills complementing leadership skills with high self-confidence and a hunger to learn
