Job Purpose:

Join our Global Data team as a Data Engineer Intern and be part of a high-performing team that is passionate about expanding financial services to off-grid customers. This role will involve supporting the data team’s functions, including building and maintaining data pipelines, managing IoT data, and ensuring high code quality and database design. Your work will directly impact how we support our customers’ repayment journeys and drive innovation.

Key Responsibilities:

• Data Modelling and ETL:
  • Implement and maintain robust data models to support analytics and reporting requirements.
  • Develop scalable ETL processes from various sources into a data warehouse.
• Data Ingestion and Pipeline Automation:
  • Implement data validation and quality checks to ensure accuracy and completeness.
  • Maintain automated data pipelines for streamlined data processing and transformation.
  • Use orchestration tools to schedule and monitor pipeline workflows.
• Data Warehousing:
  • Optimize data warehousing solutions to support business intelligence and analytics needs.
  • Apply data modelling techniques for optimal querying and analysis.
• Dashboard Optimization:
  • Troubleshoot and fix issues with existing reports and dashboards.
  • Continuously improve dashboard performance and responsiveness for large datasets and complex queries.

Experience & Skills:

• 6+ months of industry experience in data engineering, focusing on data ingestion, warehousing, pipeline automation, and ETL development.
• Proficiency in programming languages such as Python, Scala, or Java.
• Experience with SQL, and one or more of Spark, Hadoop, Hive, or HDFS.
• Familiarity with databases, data systems, and analytics solutions including SQL, NoSQL, Java, Spark, and Amazon Redshift.
• Experience with unit and integration testing.
• Ability to communicate effectively with stakeholders across data, software, and platform teams.
• A proactive attitude and willingness to tackle challenges with a team-oriented mindset.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Mathematical Science, Machine Learning, or a related field.
• Proficiency in English; French is a plus.
