Job Summary:
This is a contractual on-site role as a Quality Control Officer at Bureau Veritas Uganda Ltd based in Kampala. The Quality Control Officer will be responsible for day-to-day quality control tasks, including conducting inspections, tests, and analyses to ensure compliance with Client specifications, sector standards and regulations. They will collaborate with cross-functional teams to identify and resolve quality issues, maintain accurate documentation, and communicate findings to relevant stakeholders. The actual sites of work may be upcountry away from Kampala. These will always be facilitated as necessary.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Conduct regular quality control inspections on coffee beans and related activities in line with Customer specifications and industrial standards.
- Sampling and basic quality assessments.
- Monitor and maintain quality standards during reception of coffee at designated sites.
- Collaborate with sourcing teams to select high-quality coffee beans.
- Ensure that the sourcing teams implement and adhere to the highest quality control procedures and protocols.
- Document and report on quality findings and issues.
- Train and mentor staff on quality control practices and standards.
- Stay updated with industry trends and best practices in coffee quality control.
Qualifications, Skills, and Experience:
- A minimum of a diploma, preferably in a science-related discipline like Agriculture, Food Science, etc.
- A Certificate in Coffee Basic Quality Control from UCDA.
- Ability to use technology in inspections like tabs for real-time data relays.
- Strong analytical skills, including the ability to analyze data and identify trends.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Proficiency in basic coffee laboratory skills, including sample preparation and analysis.
- Experience in quality control and assurance processes.
- Excellent sensory evaluation skills.
- Detail-oriented with strong analytical skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Strong communication and reporting skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Certification in coffee quality control (e.g., Q Grader certification).
- Experience with quality control in a manufacturing or production environment.
- Knowledge of international and industrial coffee standards and regulations.
