Job Summary: Reporting to the Child Protection Officer, the Child Protection Case Worker is responsible for the implementation of case management activities for children, their parents, caregivers, and families in need of protection in Settlements. This includes case management and follow-up of cases related to UASC after identification and documentation, including continuous basic emotional support. Once the cases are identified, the case worker is expected to provide case management based on a child-centered approach.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Intervene in case identification and registration, case planning, referral, and follow-up of beneficiaries in collaboration with Community mentors.
- Ensure consent/assent to proceed with case management is obtained from the child, parent, caregiver, and legal guardian.
- Supervise and provide training for Community structures, including CPC case management.
- Develop an individual action plan for each beneficiary based on initial and comprehensive assessments.
- Establish and maintain positive and efficient relations with target beneficiaries, community members, and other actors operating in the area.
- Regularly follow up on assigned cases to ensure services and action points in the case plan are carried out within agreed time frames.
- Regularly monitor and provide support to children and families through visits, guidance, and advice.
- Work closely with the Psychosocial team in identifying psychosocial distress cases and refer them appropriately.
- Ensure all cases are entered into the Progress V4 data system for CP case management.
- Raise and address child protection issues.
- Respond to emergency cases as needed.
- Participate in surveys and data collection when required.
Child Protection:
- Promote and ensure project activities align with child protection principles.
- Report serious cases of child abuse identified by the project team to management, respecting strict confidentiality.
Coordination and Representation:
- Coordinate with CP Assistants and the psychosocial team to ensure program integration.
- Collaborate closely with ALIGHT partners and other key actors.
- Participate in relevant fora and meetings.
- Work with the Project Manager to provide accurate and timely activity reports.
Abuse Prevention Policy – Operational Risk Management:
- Commit to respect ALIGHT Risk Management Policies, including Child Safeguarding, Safety and Security, Anti-Fraud/Corruption, and Whistle Blowing Policies.
- Inform supervisors of any cases or allegations of policy transgression.
- Conduct duties in respect of the Charter of Terre des hommes and the ALIGHT Child Protection Policy.
Qualifications, Skills, and Experience:
- A minimum of a Diploma in Social Work, Social Sciences, Community Psychology, or Development Studies.
- One year of experience in working on Child Protection issues and case management with an INGO.
- Basic knowledge of Child Protection is desirable.
- Fluency in Swahili and the ability to ride a motorcycle with a valid license (Class A) is an added advantage.
- Preferably a resident or willingness to reside in Nakivale or Rwamwanja settlement.
