Job Summary:
The Driver will provide transportation for project staff, equipment, and materials necessary for the implementation of project activities. This position is contingent upon award and funding.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Drive project vehicles with strict adherence to local traffic laws and in accordance with project rules and regulations.
- Transport project staff and materials within Dakar and regional areas.
- Maintain the vehicle in satisfactory condition, including weekly cleaning of the interior and exterior, and periodic (quarterly) cleaning of the motor and chassis.
- Ensure tires are in good working condition at all times, including the spare tire.
- Update the vehicle usage log daily and submit it monthly.
- Submit fuel consumption reports as required.
- Perform regular maintenance of the vehicle, ensuring fluid levels (water, oil, fuel, washer liquid, etc.) are at required levels.
- Report any apparent malfunctions to the supervisor.
- Immediately report any damage or accidents to the supervisor.
- Ensure the vehicle is safely parked and locked when not in use.
- Carry out project errands as required.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
- High school graduate; formal driver training with a valid driver’s license.
- At least one year of work experience as a driver; a safe driving record with a recognized institution, preferably for a USAID or other donor project.
- Knowledge of car mechanics and repair.
- Working knowledge of written and oral language.
- For regional drivers: knowledge of regional roads, rural school communities, and local languages.
