Job Summary:

The Driver will provide transportation for project staff, equipment, and materials necessary for the implementation of project activities. This position is contingent upon award and funding.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Drive project vehicles with strict adherence to local traffic laws and in accordance with project rules and regulations.
  • Transport project staff and materials within Dakar and regional areas.
  • Maintain the vehicle in satisfactory condition, including weekly cleaning of the interior and exterior, and periodic (quarterly) cleaning of the motor and chassis.
  • Ensure tires are in good working condition at all times, including the spare tire.
  • Update the vehicle usage log daily and submit it monthly.
  • Submit fuel consumption reports as required.
  • Perform regular maintenance of the vehicle, ensuring fluid levels (water, oil, fuel, washer liquid, etc.) are at required levels.
  • Report any apparent malfunctions to the supervisor.
  • Immediately report any damage or accidents to the supervisor.
  • Ensure the vehicle is safely parked and locked when not in use.
  • Carry out project errands as required.

Qualifications, Skills and Experience:

  • High school graduate; formal driver training with a valid driver’s license.
  • At least one year of work experience as a driver; a safe driving record with a recognized institution, preferably for a USAID or other donor project.
  • Knowledge of car mechanics and repair.
  • Working knowledge of written and oral language.
  • For regional drivers: knowledge of regional roads, rural school communities, and local languages.
