Job Summary:
The Shelter Depot Social Innovation Assistant will serve as Every Shelter’s “Point of Contact” for Adapt and Innovation activities in each settlement. This position will work closely with the Social Innovation Lead as well as the Program and Operations Assistants who will be project managing the work from Kampala. The role will involve implementing required activities from idea briefs, working on specific pilots, collecting data, conducting stakeholder interviews, and reporting findings to the necessary Every Shelter staff and personnel. Using data drawn from pilots, this coordinator will help the Social Innovation Lead and other team members make recommendations for store adaptations, product innovations, and work-for-credit modifications leading to increased store effectiveness, impact, profitability, and performance.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
Program Development and Implementation
- Work closely with Every Shelter leadership to coordinate and implement project pilots, gather information to inform pilots, and communicate with all relevant stakeholders.
- Collaborate with Every Shelter leadership in developing implementation timetables, work plans, and strategies.
- Update idea briefs in collaboration with the Every Shelter team as appropriate.
- Conduct assessments of pilot participants and report findings clearly to Every Shelter leadership.
- Assist in key project assessments, data analysis, and data protection to ensure project success.
- Collect human interest stories on the progress/achievements and impact of the pilot project.
- Test and explore prototypes, innovations, and pilots by engaging community members and supporting various stages of the process.
Communication
- Ensure Every Shelter leadership is fully briefed on all Shelter Depot program developments and have ample opportunity to input and guide program development. This will include regular progress reports to Every Shelter leadership, weekly evening virtual calls with Every Shelter US staff, and regular photo and video updates.
- Serve as an in-settlement focal point for the development of partnerships that are part of the work-for-credit or relevant pilot project aspects of programming.
- Clearly communicate Shelter Depot programmatic goals to partners and navigate the path forward for joint programming.
- Engage strategically with OPM, UNHCR, and other partners in the settlement to advance the interests of Shelter Depot and Every Shelter.
Qualifications, Skills, and Experience:
- Must be fluent in English (written and spoken). Fluency in primary languages used in-settlement is required.
- Experience working with OPM, UNHCR, and other partners.
- An entrepreneurial mindset.
- Extremely self-motivated and able to stay on task with remote supervision.
- A team player who can work well with others and lead by example.
- Strong written and oral communication skills.
Physical Requirements:
- Willingness to travel as needed around the settlement.
- Ability to walk, squat, lift heavy objects, and tolerate the conditions associated with long days (inside and outside) at the Shelter Depot site.
