About Oil Palm Uganda Limited (OPUL)

Oil Palm Uganda Limited (OPUL) has established over 6,000 hectares of oil palm supported by over 5,000 hectares of smallholder farmers on Kalangala Bugala Island. The crude oil is shipped to the refinery at Masese Jinja at Bidco Uganda Limited (BUL) for manufacturing oils, fats, soap, and detergents. OPUL conducts business in a prosperous, safe, and environmentally sustainable manner that promotes the well-being of its shareholders, community, government, employees, and customers. Our vision is to be the leading internationally competitive, high-yielding, low-cost oil palm plantation and milling company producing sustainable palm oil.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

  • Manage the recruitment process, especially for local staff.
  • Update Staff Payroll in collaboration with the Finance department.
  • Process work permits for expatriate staff through the Immigration department under the Ministry of Internal Affairs.
  • Oversee staff welfare.
  • Conduct annual staff appraisals for performance purposes.
  • Manage the company’s medical scheme (Company Clinic).
  • Prepare and issue staff IDs.
  • Ensure compliance with company policies by all staff, both local and expatriates.
  • Manage disciplinary proceedings.
  • Handle workplace conflicts.
  • Track leaves (annual, sick leaves, etc.).
  • Monitor latecomers using a geometric machine.

Required Qualifications

  • An Honours Degree in Human Resource Management, Organizational Psychology, or a related field.
  • At least 5 years of experience in human resource management in an organization with a large workforce.
  • Highly organized with excellent time management skills, the ability to analyze information quickly, and good problem-solving skills.
  • Familiarity with local employment laws.
  • Ability to relate with all levels of staff and management within the organization.
