The United States Embassy in Kampala, Uganda, has maintained diplomatic relations with Uganda for over 30 years. Currently headed by Ambassador Natalie E. Brown, the Mission encompasses several offices and organizations working under the Embassy’s auspices, including:

  • United States Agency for International Development (USAID)
  • Centers for Disease Control (CDC)
  • Peace Corps

Job Summary:

USAID/Uganda seeks qualified candidates for two positions as Development Outreach and Communications (DOC) Specialists. The DOC Specialists will be part of the DOC team within the Program Office and report to the Supervisory DOC (S/DOC).

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Produce and disseminate public and internal information about USAID activities for Ugandan and American audiences.
  • Promote awareness and understanding of U.S. foreign assistance to Uganda.
  • Guide, coordinate, and implement USAID’s communication practices and outreach efforts.
  • Relay related policies and achievements to key audiences in Uganda, the United States, and other donor countries.
  • Collaborate closely with USAID/Uganda’s technical offices and implementing partners.
  • Serve as liaison(s) with the U.S. Embassy Public Diplomacy Section (PDS) to ensure coordination on USAID public activities and projects.

Qualifications, Skills, and Experience:

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree with significant coursework in relevant fields such as print/electronic media, communications, social media, visual communications, public relations or affairs, international relations, international development, public administration, development/area studies, or social studies.
  • Experience: At least five years of progressively responsible experience as a public relations specialist, journalist, or similar position in an international development organization or media company, involving dissemination of information to targeted audiences, and designing and implementing print, audio, and video products.
