Minimum Qualifications and Working Experience:
- An Ordinary Level Certificate and Advanced Level Certificate.
- A Bachelor of Laws (LLB) Degree from a recognized University/Institution.
- A Post Graduate Diploma in Legal Practice from the Law Development Centre or a recognized Institution.
- Served as a Senior Principal Magistrate Grade I for at least 2 years, or Principal Magistrate Grade 1 for at least 3 years, or Senior Magistrate Grade 1 for at least 4 years, or Magistrate Grade 1 for at least 8 years, or as an Advocate in Private Practice or a legal professional in a similar position in a reputable organization/institution or a Law Firm for at least 8 years.
- Relevant advanced/postgraduate qualifications, ICT qualifications, and work experience will be an added advantage.
- A Certificate of Enrolment is required.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Taking charge of the Magisterial Area.
- Supervising all Magistrates and staff in the Magisterial Area.
- Managing funds released to the Court.
- Hearing and disposing of civil and criminal cases.
- Organizing and chairing District Coordination Committees (DCC) and staff meetings.
- Organizing Open Court Days.
- Making periodic visits to detention centres within the Magisterial Area.
- Custodian of the Court Seal.
- Supervising Local Council Courts.
- Managing an inventory of Judiciary assets, if in charge of a station.
- Preparing monthly situational, activity, and performance reports to the Chief Registrar.
- Ensuring proper utilization of the Electronic Court Case Management Information System.
- Submitting monthly returns to the Registry of Magistrates’ Affairs and Data Management.
- Promoting a positive image of the Judiciary by adhering to the Judicial Code of Conduct, core values, and zero tolerance to corruption among Court Staff and self.
- Ensuring the Registry, Archives, and Exhibit stores are organized.
- Performing any other duties assigned by the supervisor.
