Amuriat Denies Receiving Money From President Museveni

Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) President Patrick Oboi Amuriat has denied allegations of receiving money from President Museveni.

Amuriat denied these allegations while appearing on NBS TV on Monday morning.

In July 2023, the country woke up to a full-blown war amongst top leaders and members of one of the leading parties, FDC. These misunderstandings were shouldered by allegations of bribery and dubious procurements.

These were brought to light during a consultative meeting by Kira Municipality MP Ibrahim Ssemujju Nganda. Themed “Redirecting FDC to its core mission,” Ssemujju assembled top party leaders including the then Vice President for Buganda, Erias Lukwago. Buhweju County MP Francis Mwijukye, the FDC deputy treasurer, was also present.

At the meeting, the group said the party president Amuriat and secretary general Nandala Mafabi were on a mission to deliver the party to President Museveni and NRM. The group has since sought solace at former party president Dr. Kizza Besigye’s Katonga road office, hence the name Katonga faction.

Amuriat is confident in FDC’s chances

However, according to Amuriat, these claims are baseless and unfounded. Amuriat confirmed that nobody in Najjanankumbi leadership received a cent from President Museveni. Amuriat also warned supporters against entertaining advances of what he called disgruntled members of FDC.

He warned that there’s only one FDC and there’s no such thing as Katonga faction. According to Oboi, this was solved by the National Delegates Conference of October 2023.

He also advised the Katonga faction to return to Najjanankumbi as they are not recognized. The Katonga faction has been moving around the country to consult voters on their next move. However, Amuriat says that most of the voters have advised them to reconcile with the FDC leadership.

He also boasted about the vibrance of his party amidst media reports of dormancy. POA, as he’s fondly referred to, also tasked the National Unity Platform (NUP) to clearly define their philosophy to the public.
