AG Kiwanuka Appoints New LDC Management Committee

Attorney General Kiryowa Kiwanuka has appointed a new management committee for the Law Development Centre (LDC). These appointments, communicated by Justice Paul Mugamba, the outgoing Chairperson of the management committee, take effect on June 4.

Through a May 31 letter, the retired judge confirmed the appointment of Justice Christopher Izama Madrama as his successor.

Hon. Justice Christopher Izama Madrama is a Justice of the Supreme Court of Uganda. Over the years, he has served as a Justice of the Court of Appeal and within various divisions of the High Court, including commercial and execution divisions.

Former Uganda Law Society President Simon Peter Kinobe is also appointed to the committee. Kinobe brings his 18 years of experience in practicing law at the Centre.

Additionally, Kinobe is a founding partner of Ortus Advocates and has taught law at the university level.

Another appointment to the management committee is Joanita Gertrude Bushara, who is a Partner at Justitia Law Advocates, specializing in Land Transactions and Conveyancing, Family Law matters, Corporate Law, and Oil and Gas. Bushara has served in the legal field for over two decades as an advocate of the High Court, including a stint as Commissioner of Oaths.

Bushara returns to LDC, where she was once a lecturer, teaching Family Law and Land Transactions.She has served on various boards of the Uganda Law Society, East African Law Society, and FIDA-Uganda.

Additionally, Advocate Adar John Partrick brings his 14 years of work experience practicing law in Uganda to the table as the third appointment. On top of being the Managing Partner at J. Adar & Co. Advocates, Adar has previously worked with Facilitation for Peace and Development and Justice Centres Uganda. He has served as a Member of the Lira Regional Referral Hospital Board.

To complete the committee are the ex-officio members who join courtesy of the offices they hold. These include the Principal of the School of Law at Makerere University, the Solicitor General of the Ministry of Justice and Constitutional Affairs, and the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Education and Sports.

The Management Committee is the governing body of the Law Development Centre, charged with policy formulation, implementation, and general strategic oversight of the Centre.
